We’ve signed up to help tackle climate change with The Planet Mark – will you join us?
Innovation is at the heart of everything we do and we’re fortunate enough to work with many of the brightest and most forward-thinking business brains in the UK.
Lots of the innovative products and services we see being developed focus on sustainability and supporting the planet – whether that’s about making packaging more eco-friendly, coming up with smarter ways to produce food or designing manufacturing processes that reduce pressure on the environment.
But lately we’ve been thinking more deeply about this issue and have asked ourselves – what can we do? As well as supporting the creative geniuses who are trying to make a difference, how can we at Breakthrough Group HQ really make our mark in this movement? Or better still, reduce it?
That’s why we’ve signed up to The Planet Mark Certification Programme. Developed by sustainability consulting company Planet First in partnership with the Eden Project, The Planet Mark scheme aims to help businesses grow by improving their social and environmental performance. Using rigorous carbon footprint measurement and reporting, The Planet Mark assists companies to achieve a meaningful reduction of operational carbon emissions; on average, certified businesses make a 10% carbon saving per employee per year through reductions in energy, waste, water, travel and procurement.
Sounds good, right? We certainly thought so, which is why we’ve made the commitment to become Planet Mark certified and be an even more responsible member of our local community.
As our CEO Sue Nelson says: “We are a social impact business putting ‘profit for purpose’ at the centre of our thinking. We are also an ethical employer with family friendly working practices and a commitment to staff training and paying above the living wage. All this fits perfectly with The Planet Mark accreditation. It’s the final piece in our aim to be a force for good in business – trying really hard to ensure our environmental impact is kept to a minimum too.”
