FOOD TECH - The story of a spread that doesn’t contain a drop of oil or a grain of sugar
The UK sweet spreads market is expected to be worth £613 million by 2018 and market research carried out by MINTEL in 2014 revealed that 58% of consumers don’t like high oil and sugar content in spreads. However, not using high oil and sugar content gives significant production and shelf life problems.
This development team set themselves the task of producing spreads that do not have a drop of oil or grain of refined sugar in their products. This makes them ideal for diabetics in particular but also for consumers with gluten intolerance.
This small company with big ambitions has managed to create gluten-free spreads using natural ingredients, which have already won a number of awards. Their products are mostly Vegetarian Society approved and some are suitable for vegans.
Working in partnership with the National Centre for Excellence in Food Engineering they have also produced a report outlining the health benefits of their products.
